What is the best CRM for startups in 2026?

Attio is the best CRM for startups that sell B2B. It is free for up to 3 seats, new venture-backed teams get 80% off Pro in year one, and it fits up to about 30 reps. Choose HubSpot when marketing fills the pipeline, Pipedrive when you are bootstrapped with a linear pipeline, and Salesforce once your process needs an admin.

At each stage, from founders selling to a first sales team, three costs matter: cash, the hours someone spends running the CRM, and what it will cost to switch CRM later. We run our own sales on Attio and would choose it again. Every price and program here was checked on the vendors' own pages on 9 October 2026.

Which CRM should a startup use at each stage?

Use a free plan while founders sell. When you hire your first seller, buy the CRM you would still run at 30 reps, which for most venture-backed B2B startups is Attio. Marketing-led startups should pick HubSpot, and bootstrapped teams with a predictable pipeline should pick Pipedrive. Add Salesforce only when the sales process needs an admin.

StageWho is in the CRMBest pickYear one, list price
Founder-led sales1 to 3 founders, no repeatable process yetAttio Free, or a spreadsheet$0
First sales hireFounders plus 1 to 3 sellers, 5 seatsAttio Plus, or Pipedrive Growth if bootstrapped$2,100, or $2,340
First sales team10 reps running email sequencesAttio Pro, or HubSpot Professional if marketing-led$9,480, or $12,300 with onboarding

Costs assume annual billing at list price, before any startup discount. Attio's prices come from its pricing page, HubSpot's from its pricing page and product catalog, and Pipedrive's from its pricing page. Pipedrive's page showed its euro prices on 9 October, unchanged at €14 to €79; its US prices are as listed in September 2026.

Does a startup need a CRM from day one?

Not a paid one. While founders do the selling and the process changes every few weeks, a spreadsheet or a free plan is enough. Prefer a free plan that syncs email and calendar, because activity history is the data that transfers worst when you switch CRM later, and a spreadsheet cannot capture it.

Three CRMs have free plans that cover a founding team: Attio for up to 3 seats (Attio), HubSpot for up to 2 users (HubSpot) and Salesforce's Free Suite for up to 2 users (Salesforce). Attio's is the one you can keep as you grow. It syncs email and calendar on every plan and, by default, creates people and companies for everyone you have emailed or met (Attio), so nobody types in a contact.

Folk is built for founder-led selling and costs $24 a seat a month on annual billing, or $48 once you need deals and sequences, after a two-week trial (Folk). Our best CRMs guide rates it the fastest CRM to get running, and also gives it the lowest ceiling: plan to leave it when you hire your second account executive (AE).

What CRM should a startup buy for its first sales hire?

Buy the CRM you would still run with 30 reps, because the first hire is when shared pipeline, email sync and handoffs start to matter. For a venture-backed B2B startup that is usually Attio. Choose Pipedrive if you are bootstrapped and deals follow the same stages, or HubSpot if inbound marketing brings in most of your leads.

Attio Plus costs $35 a seat a month on annual billing and stops at 10 seats (Attio). Pipedrive's real entry plan is Growth at $39, because Lite has no email sync (Pipedrive plan matrix). HubSpot Starter lists at $20 a seat, cut to $7 by a limited-time 65% discount, and stops at 10 users (HubSpot).

Terms come from Attio's startup page, HubSpot for Startups and Salesforce Launchpad. With Attio's discount, five Pro seats cost $948 in year one, less than half the list price of five Plus seats. HubSpot's covers net-new Professional or Enterprise subscriptions, and Professional also carries a one-time $1,500 onboarding fee (HubSpot catalog). Apply to Attio's program within 90 days of signing up.

Which CRM should a startup use once it has a sales team?

Choose Attio Pro if your startup's data model is unusual or still changing and you will stay under about 30 reps. Choose HubSpot Professional if marketing and sales need one contact record, and Pipedrive if the pipeline is linear and price matters most. Salesforce earns its cost only with territories, approval chains or regulated buyers, plus an admin.

Plan with email sequences (annual billing)Per seat a monthYear one, 10 reps
Pipedrive Growth$39$4,680
Attio Pro$79$9,480
HubSpot Professional$90, plus $1,500 onboarding once$12,300
Salesforce Pro Suite with Sales Engagement$100, plus $50 for the add-on$18,000

Sequences start at Pipedrive Growth, Attio Pro and HubSpot Professional. Salesforce sells them as its Sales Engagement add-on (Salesforce), and its full-platform Core edition costs $195 a seat (Salesforce pricing).

What should a startup choose when cash and admin time are short?

Choose a free or low-cost plan that fills itself from email and calendar, and configure as little as possible. Every automation you build before the process repeats is admin today and rebuild work after a switch. Skip any CRM that needs an administrator, which rules out Salesforce's upper editions for most startups before their first sales team.

The best CRM automation examples shows what Attio, HubSpot and Pipedrive fill in on their own. Salesforce's Starter Suite costs $25 a seat with no implementation fee, and Salesforce says it sets up in minutes (Salesforce).

Without a startup discount, pay monthly for the first quarter of real use, then switch to annual. Pipedrive's annual plans are prepaid and can't be refunded (Pipedrive), and Attio Plus costs $44 a month on monthly billing against $35 on annual (Attio).

How much does it cost to switch CRM later?

A simple move between similar CRMs takes days. Leaving a customized Salesforce instance takes three to six months and usually a partner. Contacts, companies, open deals and notes transfer cleanly, but activity history transfers badly, and automations, reports and dashboards have to be rebuilt by hand. The more logic you build, the more a switch costs.

The timelines and the ranking of what is hardest to leave come from what CRM migration actually costs. The ceilings come from our reviews of Attio, HubSpot and Pipedrive.

Moving in costs little: Attio's Import2 migration is free on its paid plans (Attio), and Pipedrive's is free up to a million records and runs during the trial (Pipedrive).

Frequently asked questions

Attio has the best free plan for startups: it covers up to 3 seats and creates contacts from email and calendar on its own. HubSpot and Salesforce both have free plans for up to 2 users. Pipedrive and Folk offer trials, not free plans. See our Attio review.
HubSpot's free CRM is free for up to 2 users. HubSpot for Startups gives eligible pre-seed to Series A companies 90% off Professional or Enterprise in year one, 50% in year two and 25% in year three. Professional also carries a one-time $1,500 onboarding fee. See Attio vs HubSpot.
For most startups, not before the first sales team. Starter Suite costs $25 a seat and sets up quickly, but Salesforce's strengths sit in the editions above it, which usually need an admin. Venture-backed startups can apply to Salesforce Launchpad for discounts. See HubSpot vs Salesforce.
Attio for startups still working out how they sell, especially with an unusual data model. Pipedrive for startups with a proven, linear sales process and a tight budget. See Attio vs Pipedrive.
Yes. Spiich writes meeting notes, deal updates and tasks into Attio, HubSpot, Pipedrive and Salesforce.

How should a startup choose its first CRM?

Start on Attio's free plan, or HubSpot's if marketing will drive your pipeline, and connect every founder's inbox and calendar on day one. Two weeks later, open your five most active deals and check that every email and meeting is on the record without anyone typing it. If it is, you have a CRM you can grow into.

If it isn't, fix the sync before you add a single field or automation. When you are down to two finalists, read Attio vs HubSpot, Attio vs Pipedrive or HubSpot vs Pipedrive.
