# Connect Slack

> Connect Slack once for the workspace, invite @Spiich to a channel, and anyone can ask the CRM assistant a question and get an answer in the same thread. Background agents can also deliver their reports to Slack.

## Before you start

- You can install an app into your Slack workspace.
- Each person's Slack email address matches their Spiich email address.

Slack puts the same CRM assistant your team uses in the web app into the channels where the deals are actually discussed. Mention **@Spiich** and the answer comes back in the thread.

## Connect Slack

1. **Open Integrations**
Go to [`Settings > Integrations`](https://app.spiich.ai/settings/integrations) and find the **Outreach and messaging** section.

2. **Add to Slack**
On the Slack card, click **Add to Slack**.

3. **Approve in Slack**
Slack lists what the app is asking for: reading mentions and the history of channels, groups and direct messages it is in, posting messages, adding reactions, and reading your workspace's user list and email addresses. Approve it.

4. **Confirm**
You return to Spiich with *Successfully connected to Slack* and the card shows `Connected`.

5. **Invite the bot to a channel**
In Slack, open a channel where you want the assistant and run `/invite @Spiich`.

Slack connects **per workspace, not per person**. One Slack workspace links to one Spiich workspace and the connection affects everyone. Any member can connect or disconnect it from `Settings > Integrations`. In the first-run wizard the Slack stage is shown to admins only, so a member who joined by invitation connects it from Settings instead.

## What @Spiich does in a channel

Mention it with a question and it answers in the same thread, formatted as Slack text.

_Ask in a Slack channel:_
```
@Spiich what happened on the Northwind deal this week?
```

While it works, a `Thinking...` status appears. It reads the surrounding conversation for context: up to 50 messages from a thread, or the last 10 messages in the channel when your message is not a thread reply.

Answers are generated **as the person asking**. Spiich matches the Slack account's email address to a Spiich account, so each person gets an answer scoped to what they can see. If the two addresses do not match, Spiich replies privately with *Your Slack account is not linked to a Spiich account* and does nothing else.

Two things behave differently from the web app. The Spiich app only sees channels it has been invited to, so nothing is read anywhere it has not been added. And in Slack the assistant works with web search only: the Gmail, Calendar and other tool toggles from Chat do not apply to Slack conversations.

## Send background agent reports to Slack

Slack is also a delivery channel. Any background agent can post its results into Slack instead of, or as well as, emailing them.

1. **Open the agent**
Go to [**Background agents**](https://app.spiich.ai/background-agents) and open the agent, or create a new one. The Slack section only appears once the workspace is connected to Slack.

2. **Turn on Slack messaging**
Switch on **Allow Slack messaging**, described as *Enable the agent to send Slack messages with reports and summaries*.

3. **Choose where it lands**
Turn on **Direct message to agent's owner**, or pick specific channels, or both. An agent with Slack messaging on but no destination selected has nowhere to send.

4. **Add a missing channel**
Only channels the Spiich app is a member of are listed. If one is missing, run `/invite @Spiich` in that channel in Slack, then click the refresh icon next to *Don't see a channel?*.

5. **Save the agent**
Save, and the next run reports where you chose.

More on agents themselves is in [Create a background agent](/help/background-agents/create-a-background-agent).

## Limits

- One Slack workspace per Spiich workspace, and the connection is shared by everyone.
- The Spiich app only sees channels it has been invited to. Archived channels never appear in an agent's channel list.
- Slack users are matched to Spiich accounts by email address. A mismatch means no answer.
- In Slack, the assistant has web search but not the Gmail, Calendar or other per-conversation tools.
- Long answers are split into blocks of at most 2,900 characters, so a detailed reply arrives as several sections of one message.
- Thread context is capped at 50 messages, or the last 10 messages in a channel for a non-threaded question.

## Disconnect Slack

Open the three-dot menu on the Slack card in `Settings > Integrations`, choose **Disconnect** and confirm. The bot stops responding anywhere in your Slack workspace and the cached list of Slack people and channels is cleared until you reconnect. Agents set to deliver over Slack lose that destination, so give them an email recipient first if they still need to report.

## If something goes wrong

**The bot never replies in a channel.** It has not been invited. Run `/invite @Spiich` in that channel and mention it again.

**Slack says your account is not linked.** The email on the Slack profile does not match a Spiich user in the workspace. Align the addresses, or ask an admin to invite that email to Spiich.

**A channel is missing from an agent's picker.** Invite the app to it in Slack, then click the refresh icon next to *Don't see a channel?*.

**An agent says it could not send a Slack message.** Either **Allow Slack messaging** is off on that agent, or no DM and no channel is selected, or the workspace is not connected to Slack at all.

**A reply notes that today's included usage has run out.** The workspace's included daily AI usage is spent and replies fall back to the lighter, faster tier until it resets. See [Credits and usage](/help/workspace/credits-and-usage).

## Frequently asked questions

### Does connecting Slack let Spiich read all our channels?

No. The Spiich app only sees channels it has been explicitly invited to with `/invite @Spiich`. It never reads a channel it is not a member of, and it never appears in an agent channel picker either.

### Whose data does an answer in Slack use?

The asker's. Spiich matches the Slack account's email address to a Spiich account and answers as that person, so what comes back respects their access. An unmatched Slack email gets a private note rather than an answer.

### Can I use Gmail search or my calendar from Slack?

Not today. In Slack the assistant works with web search only; the per-conversation tool toggles live in the web app and browser extension. Ask mail and calendar questions in Chat instead.

### Why did a long answer arrive in several chunks?

Slack replies are split into blocks of at most 2,900 characters, so a long answer becomes several sections inside one message. Nothing is lost, it is just laid out in pieces.
