# Update your CRM by voice

> Dictate into Spiich from the web app, the Chrome extension or your phone. It transcribes your words into the composer, then writes the update to your CRM. Set your language in Agent Customization.

The fastest CRM update is the one you talk through on the walk back to your car. Spiich takes a spoken note, transcribes it, and turns it into the records, notes and tasks it describes. The transcription model is primed with sales vocabulary, so terms like ARR, MQL, ICP and champion come back spelled properly instead of mangled.

## Dictate in the web app

1. **Start recording**
   Click the microphone button on the right of the composer (`Record voice (R)`), or just press `R` when your cursor is not in a text field.

2. **Talk**
   Say the update the way you would tell a colleague. The button becomes a stop control while you speak.

3. **Stop**
   Press the button again, or press `R` again. A green tick confirms the transcript landed.

4. **Check and send**
   The text appears in the composer, appended to anything you had already typed. Edit it if you want, then press Enter.

Because the transcript lands in the composer rather than sending straight away, you can add an `@` mention or a file before you send. See [Point Spiich at a specific record](/help/chat-and-voice/mention-crm-records).

## Dictate in the Chrome extension

The extension side panel has the same record button in its message box, and the same `R` shortcut when your cursor is not in a field. The first time you use it, Spiich opens a one-time setup tab titled `Enable microphone access`, asks Chrome for the permission, and closes itself once you allow it. After that it works from any page.

If the tab shows `Permission denied`, open `chrome://settings/content/microphone`, remove Spiich from the blocked list, then reload and click `Try Again`. See [Chrome extension](/help/apps/chrome-extension).

## Dictate on your phone

The mobile app is built for this. Open a chat, hold the record button in the message bar and talk. A live waveform shows while you speak and you can cancel a recording you do not want. iOS asks for microphone access the first time.

The plus button in the same message bar attaches photos from your camera or library, up to ten per message, so you can photograph a business card and dictate the context around it in one go. See [Mobile app](/help/apps/mobile-app).

## Set your transcription language

Spiich defaults to English. If you sell in another language, change it once.

1. **Open Agent Customization**
   Go to [`Settings > Agent Customization`](https://app.spiich.ai/settings/agent-customization).

2. **Find User information**
   Scroll to the `User information` section.

3. **Pick your language**
   Open `Speech Recognition Language` and choose the primary language you speak in recordings.

4. **Confirm it saved**
   The choice saves immediately and a `Changes saved` toast confirms it.

Eighteen languages are available: English, Swedish, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Danish, Norwegian, Finnish, Polish, Russian, Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Arabic and Hindi. The setting is personal to you, so everyone in the workspace picks their own.

## Worked examples

_Debrief a call from the car:_
```
Just got off a call with Acme. They want a security review before they sign, budget is confirmed, and the champion is taking the decision to their CFO next week. Log this on the Acme deal and create a task to send the security pack by Friday.
```

_Capture a contact you just met:_
```
Add Tom Berg, VP Engineering at Northwind, tom at northwind dot example, as a contact and link him to the Northwind deal. Note that he owns the technical evaluation.
```

_Move a deal along:_
```
Northwind pushed their start date to January and asked for a reference in retail. Update the close date, log the note, and draft me a follow-up email to Jane covering both.
```

## What this does not do

- Voice input captures a short note for transcription. It does not record a meeting. Only the [Spiich Recorder](/help/meetings/install-the-meeting-recorder) desktop app records calls, on macOS and Windows.
- The transcript lands in the composer as text. Nothing is sent, and nothing is written to your CRM, until you press Enter.
- Spiich never sends an email or books a meeting off the back of a voice note. It drafts and prepares. See [What Spiich will and will not do on its own](/help/chat-and-voice/what-spiich-does-on-its-own).

## If something goes wrong

- **`Recording Error, Could not access microphone`.** Your browser blocked microphone access for Spiich. Allow it in your browser's site settings, reload, and press record again.
- **`Transcription Error, Could not transcribe audio`.** The recording was empty or unusable, or the service hiccuped. Record again, speak closer to the microphone, and check your language setting.
- **The text comes back in the wrong language, or garbles sales terms.** Your `Speech Recognition Language` is set to a language you are not speaking. Change it in `Settings > Agent Customization`.
- **The extension will not record at all.** Finish the one-time microphone setup tab. Until Chrome has granted the permission to the extension, the record button cannot start.

## Frequently asked questions

### Is my voice note stored anywhere?

Voice input is transcribed into text in the composer and the text is what Spiich works from. Meeting audio is a separate thing entirely, captured only by the Spiich Recorder desktop app. See the [Trust Center](/trust) for how Spiich handles stored data.

### Can I dictate in one language and get output in another?

Yes. `Speech Recognition Language` only controls how your speech is transcribed. How Spiich writes back to you is a separate preference you set under `Communication Preferences` in `Settings > Agent Customization`, or in memory.

### Why does my dictated text get added to what I already typed?

That is deliberate. The transcript is appended to whatever is in the composer, so you can type an `@` mention or a precise field value first and then dictate the rest, or dictate first and add the record afterwards.

### Does voice work offline on my phone?

No. Transcription runs on Spiich servers, so the app needs a connection. If you are somewhere without signal, record the note in your own notes app and paste it into the chat later.
