# Artifacts and files > Attach a spreadsheet, deck, PDF or image to a chat and Spiich reads it and builds something back. Anything you upload goes there, anything it produces lands there, and both are reachable from the pane beside your conversation. ## Attach a file 1. **Add the file** Click the paperclip (`Attach files`) in the composer, drag the file anywhere onto the page until `Drop files here` appears, or just paste it. Screenshots paste straight from your clipboard. 2. **Wait for the upload** Each attachment shows as a removable pill. The send button spins while an upload is still in flight and returns to the arrow when it is done. 3. **Say what you want done with it** Type the request, for example `turn this into a one-page summary deck`, and press Enter. 4. **Collect the result** Finished files appear in the `Files` tab of the Artifacts pane beside the chat, with a download button. > **Note:** Pasting more than 1,000 characters of text into the composer turns it into a timestamped `.txt` attachment rather than flooding the message box. Spiich reads it as a file, which is usually what you wanted anyway. ## What Spiich can do with a file It reads Excel workbooks, Word documents, PowerPoint decks, PDFs, CSVs and images, and it produces the same kinds of thing back: `.xlsx` workbooks, `.docx` documents, `.pptx` decks, PDFs, CSVs, charts and images. Useful combinations: - Hand it a messy prospect list and ask it to clean, dedupe and enrich it, then write the result back as a workbook. - Hand it a call transcript or a set of notes and ask for a summary deck. - Hand it a photo of a whiteboard or a business card and ask it to create the contact in your CRM. - Hand it last quarter's export and ask which accounts have gone quiet since. The work log tells you when it is reading or writing a file: `Read file`, `Write file`, `Edit file`, `List files`. ## The Artifacts pane Bigger outputs do not clutter the conversation. They open in a resizable pane next to it, each as its own tab you can switch between, close, or add back from the `+` menu. A small `Artifacts` panel in the top right of the chat lists everything the conversation produced, so you can reopen something after closing it. `Minimize artifact pane` gives the conversation the full width back. The `Files` tab lists your workspace files, both your uploads and anything Spiich generated. Images and PDFs preview inline. Anything else shows `This file can't be previewed` with `Download it to open on your device`. Email drafts get their own treatment: an editable card in the conversation with `To`, `Cc`, `Subject` and `Body`, usually with more than one tone variant. Edit any field, reset to the original, copy the whole email, or open it prefilled in Gmail, Outlook web or your desktop mail client. Spiich never sends it. See [Follow-up emails](/help/meetings/follow-up-emails). ## Limits - **One file must be under 14.9 MB.** Larger files are refused with a `File too large` message naming the exact limit. Compress it, export a narrower range, or convert it to a lighter format. - File names are truncated to 200 bytes when stored. - Spiich can only reach files in your own workspace. It does not read your local drive, and it does not install software. - It confirms before deleting or overwriting a file in your workspace, so an accidental instruction does not quietly destroy something. - Files you upload are yours, not the workspace's. Another member does not see them. ## If something goes wrong - **`File too large`.** The file is over the 14.9 MB per-file limit. Split it, compress it, or export fewer rows. - **The send button spins and will not send.** An attachment is still uploading. Wait for the pill to finish, or remove a stuck attachment with its X and try again. - **A generated file is not in the chat.** Open the `Artifacts` panel in the top right, then the `Files` tab. Everything Spiich produced in that conversation is listed there. - **`This file can't be previewed`.** The format has no inline preview. Use the download button and open it on your device. - **An artifact will not load.** Close it and reopen it from the `Artifacts` panel, or ask Spiich to regenerate it. ## Frequently asked questions ### Can I upload a file on my phone? You can attach photos, from the camera or your library, up to ten per message. Documents and spreadsheets are best attached from the web app, where drag and drop and paste both work. See [Mobile app](/help/apps/mobile-app). ### Do uploaded files get written into my CRM? Not by themselves. Spiich reads a file to answer your question, and only writes to your CRM when you ask it to, for example "create these twenty companies as organizations". Bulk writes are confirmed with you first. ### How long do files stay in my workspace? Uploads and generated files stay in your Files area until you remove them, so you can come back to a deck Spiich built last week. Ask Spiich to delete a file and it confirms before doing it. ### Can a teammate see the files in my chat? No. The file workspace is private to your user.
